    Passing time

Planned to do this yesterday, try and do a rapid turn over between blogs to make up for my lateness. Instead I spent the day watching The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters on youtube (I was happy with the decision).

Anyway, still suffering from having joined facebook (though I am impressed with how popular I seem to be, or at least the number of people I know, as I'm now up to 45, all people I know/knew well and it's only been two days) and now suffering through the evils of 5 months worth of PRF's (see Steve smile), got about 50 input into the spreadsheet today with another 30 to go, and that's assuming they're all correctly filled out which unfortunately not all are.

Also been tricked into rejoining nationstates, got bored of it after not that long a time first time around and I suspect that it'll happen again (unless I'm able to find a large number of people to join the region I'm in, could be more interesting with lots of people I know to compare with) but in the mean time it can be entertaining so see how my nation develops from my choices.

Still not much to talk about really. Saturday I'll do a rant about Spiderman 3 I think (which I saw with my family on Monday) but that'll probably be quite short again. Haven't gotten up to much still, need to break out of shut down mode after my exams and get to the gym or something. At least install one of the new computer games I've got lying by my pc.

Part 4 of the comic (though those reading through facebook now won't be able to see it without coming to the original)

    John Constantine: How's the family?
Satan: Family's doing just fine. You know how it is. Busy, busy, busy, busy. Need a vacation.

    It burns, it burns!

Late blog again, technical difficulties this time. Plus I was very busy Sunday when I had promised this blog (turned out to be a 13 hour duty, though I remain in my two month dry season with no real casualties. Going to be pushing people down stairs during The End).

Not enough time before I sleep to talk about much so I'll just explain (as much as I'm able to). I wound up joining facebook earlier after resisting it's corruption for a long time (I think there was something in the water at the swimming pool, or maybe the food at the bowling... one of them must be the cause for this madness). I don't like things like facebook even though I've broken down before and with the number of sites I already operate I couldn't see any reason in adding another to that collection.

Well it's done now, I'll just have to leave myself to God's judgement.

    QOTD:

Jack Sparrow: [empties bottle of rum] Why is the rum always gone?
Jack Sparrow: [stands up and staggers drunkenly] Oh... that's why.

    I should get out more...

Got distracted again and thus failed my regular update plan again (and possible kept you in suspence for the next comic... no I didn't think so either).

Anyway, todays topic class is...bugger it I have nothing to talk about. Well, I suppose I could rant about my current battle with the SU but it's just the same old story (and is currently at a stalemate due to my opponent being off sick/in portugal (one of them) or I could talk about several various things which have occured to me over the past few days (rant about hiding behind racism when things don't go peoples way or against how soft our justice system has become which ASP highlighted to me earlier). But really I can't be bothered right now. I'm still in shut down mode after finishing my exams on Monday and haven't really done anything of interest since then, haven't even finished my tidying up yet.

You'd have thought that all this free time might have led to me getting out to do things or getting back to writing a book, anything. But no, I'm in shut down mode so have been lazy. Hopefully tonights duty will shake me out of it (with or without injuries) otherwise Sunday should went I head off the to southend airshow (largest free airshow in europe).

Hopefully have something more interesting by my next blog (Sunday evening I think as I have family over for the start of next week).

    Firsts

Yesterday held a series of firsts of me, none of which are particularly important or interesting but I'm going to mention them anyway to pad out this blog. The first first (should have thought this through better) was that I left my exam early for psychology (largley because I found it quite easy and was feeling confident) hadn't done that before so it seemed unique to me. The second first was that I had the first meal not cooked by myself this term for lunch (simple burger and chips in the bar). The final first was for the first time since coming to university I ordered a take-away (dominos to be specific, hadn't had one in about a year and got a discount). Such a fun and exciting life I live in during my exams.

Well that's out of the way now. As I promised I will now talk about the society guild awards that happened last night. Unfortunately I wasn't actually there so I can't really comment on the evening though I've heard good things (like members of the SU having nice chats with our people there and being friendly as strange as it sounds. Oh and lots of wine). However, I can comment on the nomination process, for us at least, I'm sure it went better for other societies.

Our first knowledge of the night was when one of our members got bored and started scanning the term planner for upcoming events, this was roughly two to three weeks ago at which point I remembered someone had been to a meeting where this was mentioned so asked him if he could remember any details. Unfortunately he couldn't so offered to e-mail the SU to find out. Surprisingly they didn't response (a true shock I know). Eventually it was brought up again at the committee meeting last Monday (the 14th with the event happening the 18th) and the next day I e-mailed the SU again to find out what was happening. Against all known laws of nature, two minutes later I got a response saying that if I could get the nominations in by the end of the day we could still be considered (nominations were meant to have been entered by the 5th). After some hurried work by me and ASP we quickly filled out nominations for society of the year, most improved society and a society commendation for ASP himself and sent them back about half an hour before the end of the SU's day.

Next we waited. And continued to wait without hearding anything further until Thursday when ASP e-mailed to confirm where the venue was as it hadn't been announced before. At that point we heard that we may have been shortlisted for an award and our hoped rose. Next the entire student body heard that we'd managed to make it onto the shortlist for both society of the year and most improved society (even if they didn't quite get our name right).

Finally as a result last night not only did ASP get his personal commendation (well, and IOU one certificate but it's a start) but as a society we also got most improved. Just have to make sure we get Society of the Year next year, and that I go to enjoy the large amounts of wine I've heard of.

At the bottom is the first in a series of comics over my next few blogs stolen from Penny Arcade, nice story line but some references may be lost if you don't know the characters so I recommend reading all of their comics some time, it's good.

    Revision is fun

Can't really say much, still got two exams to go and tomorrow will be my most painful. Will start blogging properly from Tuesday hopefully.

Though I will quickly mention (possibly a follow up tomorrow evening or Sunday) that the LINKS society managed to get onto the short list for Most Improved Society and Society of the year (the second one being largely me making it up with proof reading and suggestions to guide me) despise sending in our nominations 10 days late. The awards evening is happening at the moment so if I'm lucky there'll be some good news in about two hours.

    {additional, turns out we won most improved society (I was hoping for society of the year) and one member got a commendation, will try to blog more fully tomorrow}

    Eurovision

Still not doing great at keeping up-to-date with these blogs, or revising for that matter. One example of this lack of revision was of course last night for the eurovision.

For the last couple of years I've been getting more interested in watching it, not for the songs (I have my pride, though some weren't too bad last night) but just to listen to Terry Wogan commenting as the evening goes on. Last night I took it one step further and went to a eurovision party at a friends flat. Not going to go into details about the show seeing as most people will know anyway or you can read about it from two of the people I was with (either Thunderdragon or ASP).

However, I do have to point out one thing and it's easier just to show it rather than try to explain it...

As it says, it had to be done but to make up for it there's another stolen comic.

Lone Starr: What's that make us?
Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become.

    Level 1 complete

Should have done this earlier but I was too tired Sunday evening and was concentrating on revision yesterday. Anyway over the last three weekends LINKS have had a series of large sports duties to cover (all of which I had some hand in, limited for the first event but more so in the last two weekends) and they've provided me with my first real challenge as the new unit leader (the previous one had done it before and had the sense to avoid it this time round).

After a long period of battling over the level of cover we would provide and the costs related to that (as mentioned in previous blogs) we finally arrived at the actual events where my role changed to organising the specific command people for the various days (taking the role of post commander 2 and duty manager on two of the three days myself) as well as taking part in 'command meetings' to sort out where people and equipment would be positioned on specific days.

Eventually all the prior organising was finished with it was just down to the minute by minute... tactical? for lack of a better description, organising and generally treating our casualties. Unfortunately for the last two weekends which were the big events (the first weekend wasn't so much though it gained us more PRF's the the first two days of the big events) on the first day when I was post commander 2, the busier post, the organising wasn't great as I wasn't meant to treat myself but still ended up leading the few pitchside responses there were (lots of my casualties were stolen at the tent) and the second day when I was a plain first aider it wasn't as busy as hoped for (though I did get to quickly jog the entire length of one rugby pitch to respond to a casualty whilst two others drove over shortly afterwards, they then drove back with the casualty and a friend whilst I was made to walk meaing my casualty was again stolen from me).

Then came the final day when I took the role of duty manager giving me command over everything (and also forbidding me from so much as looking at casualties ). Actually had limited in put across the day as people and control know what they were doing and people generally requested what they needed when they needed it rather than just reporting a casualty and needing me to decide on the response but I got to put in a few bits and did my rounds to make sure things were working, also broke the rules and gave a second opinion on a broken finger and at one point was the only person patrolling the netball games due to complications over rotating members (was only brief and no one got injured during the time, but left me out of the way during the great radio conversation of where some spare high-vis jackets were to give post 2 even though they weren't required delaying my response in carrying them across the field for no reason).

However the day that I was duty manager was the most bloody of all the days (with a total of 25 PRF's out of the 60 across the three weekends and including around 4/5 off to hosptial in our ambulance, once on blue lights) and seeing as there were no deaths I think I can be proud of my first big event as duty manager and call my first challenge as Unit Leader a success. Now I've just been handed challenge 2 though which I'm expected to take on single handedly so this could prove interesting.

    Aeryn Sun: Who's taking fire?
    John Crichton: Huh. Who isn't?
Aeryn Sun: Are you all right?
John Crichton: Well, other than being shot at by the Electric Mayhem... I'm fantastic!

Tex: You get to live... but no guarantees.
Tucker: That's not a reward for me, that's a reward for all the fine ladies in the universe.
Tex: I'm a woman, and somehow, I don't feel any luckier.
    Tucker: I said fine ladies.
Andy The Bomb: What do you want Caboose?
    Caboose: I want a pony.

    The book according to Gareth

So my short blog plans aren't going well with longer gaps then I wanted between them, but I'm a busy man and I do have exams coming up.

Anyway, rather than a complaint today I'm going to announce the new project I decided to start work on last night, the book according to Gareth, quite possibily the next bible.

Basically I'm going to go through ranting about anything I can think of and offering what advice I can based on my experience of life so far. No ones going to care, I'm thinking it'll highly offend some, entertain others, maybe enlighten a small handful. But for the most part no one will care.

So far I have 19 areas I plan to cover as well as the introduction, just need to get started some time and maybe get peoples views on parts as I go along. Did get a title done though, "Life, as told by an immortal demi-god".
