April 28 Keeping my promiseTrying to stick to my short complaints every day or so (just didn't realise how fast time had been going by this week).
Anyway, today's annoyance is... the sort of babies that play computer games on-line these days. Back when I first discovered the joys of going onto the internet to kill some random stranger who most often lived in america everything would be fine. You get a perfect sniper hit to someones head from half a map away and most often they'll reply saying 'nice shot' or similar. However, these days you do that, even once, and you're instantly "camping" and therefore scum of the universe and unskilled at the rest of the game (even though camping requires a fairly high level of skill in itself). And it just seems to be getting worse with new calls of 'naders and stuff coming into existance as new games add new features and of course the immortal call of "noob" which seems to be everywhere and no one seems to realise that they all start off the same (more or less).
I just keep quite in games generally and have fallen into the role of combat medic more often than not which can't have any calls levelled against it (or I'd like to see someone try).
QOTD:
[a plasma grenade exploded on Donut's head]
Simmons: Sarge, we need to get Donut airlifted out of here. Sarge: Could you put that in a memo and entitle it "Shit I Already Know'? And a quick something to demonstrate what I mean...
April 25 HistoryFirst of my short complaint blogs, here goes...
As the title suggests I currently annoyed by history. However, understand that I personally find history in and of itself (<-- complicated language for no apparent reason) quite interesting and on occasion I have done unnessary research into an area after hearing of something related to it. My complaint meanwhile is levelled at history as a subject. I'm taking one module of a first year course at the moment (I'm sure it's better if you do more of it or above first year but I'm basing this on what I know) and it annoys me (surprise...)
Probably the biggest problem with it is that there is too much history (the world has been around a while now) for the time allotted for the course. And this is just making of the modern world, about a max of two centuries. This leaves roguhly an hour and a half to two hours to each topic within the module, such as the first world war, the second world war, the french revolution. I know that you're expected to do a lot of your own study but that still seems like too little basing for me.
Of course I'm mainly in a bad mood today because I had to drag every last word out for the essay I submitted earlier (I think I did in fact make a few words up that aren't in the dictionary just to get the word count in the end). It irritated me.
Anyway that sums it up for now, wonder what will irritate me next...
QOTD:
Calculon - That was so terrible I think you gave me cancer! April 23 I need a vacation pt2Where was I? Oh yeah, St John (which coincidently is also half the reason for the gap between the two parts of this blog). During the first week of Easter when I wasn't working in tescos we had to joys of trying or organise a quote for a couple of big duties that are happening in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to avoid details (largely because anyone reading will probably know them anyway) but they were expecting us to charge about a sixth of what we actually did to cover our equipment costs and that was at around a 60% discount. Eventually we got a quote sorted out and sent off to the organiser, a week later we then sent him a reminder and got everything agreed. This then meant some phone calls to make sure we could actually still get what we needed after the delay and a host of e-mails (there were probably around 30 - 50 in my inbox over that week and a lot of msn conversations). I just feel sorry for those who put more into it than me but I'm sure they can console themselves with the fact that I get to do it again next year.
Thus was my holiday time largely gone but even now it continues, a history essay still to complete for this Wednesday (getting there now) and more St John stuff with a duty last Saturday (meaning I couldn't blog that day whilst Sunday was taken up with essay work) and the big duties still to come needing some last minute organising that I'll probably be a part of.
Hopefully I'll get some more time off over the summer. In other news, due to the long break over Easter I'm now thinking that every other day I will do a short blog, most often just complaining about something that's annoyed me that day, or something that annoys me in general. This will carry on until either exam time or whenever I get bored of it.
QOTD:
Cat: Something's showing up on the long-range scan which is *weird* with a capital 'we'.
And another stolen comic:
April 20 I need a vacation pt1So the Easter break is over and you've escaped my rants for a month due to me being too busy/unimaginative/boring to get round to writing anything and now I feel I need a vacation.
Onto business, as with Christmas I spent most of my Easter working in tescos to try and keep my bank balance happy, or as happy as is possible for a student. There was one interesting event from my time in tescos though (as in something that wasn't exactly the same as all the other days) in that on my final shift I was asked if I could head off to another store to lend a hand due to a staff shortage. I think they picked me due to my pure brilliance, and the fact that I was the only member of staff with a car and the other store was a 30 minute drive up the M3. Any the event had a few key aspects that made it stand out due to their trickyness:
As I said it was interesting, however tescos isn't the only cluprit for me needing to actually have a vacation, St John is also there. However, I'm too tired to actually finish this rant and I have a long duty tomorrow so want to get some sleep. Part 2 will go up either tomorrow night or Sunday.
QOTD:
Kryten: May I recommend I load myself into the reverse thrust tubes and you use my body as decoy fodder. This will of course leave me splatter across deep space and unable to complete today’s laundry for which I apologise in advance.
Rimmer: Kryten, stop your blabbering and get in the damn tube
Lister: Kryten sit down! I’m not doing my own smegging ironing
And the stolen comic -
